Peter Schmeichel arrived from Brondby in 1991 for a fee Sir Alex Ferguson later called the bargain of the century. The Great Dane went on to win five league titles with United.

His final game was the 1999 Champions League final, where he captained the side in Roy Keane’s absence and went up for the stoppage-time corner that led to the equaliser.
