During that time he helped Stoke to the Second Division title in 1932/33 and 1962/63. Playing as an outside right, Matthews possessed the skill, speed and close control to beat any defender, but he could also drop deeper and play pinpoint crosses into the box. A nightmare for defenders, he is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Incredibly, Matthews stayed fit enough to play at the top level of English football until the age of 50! This is our tribute to 'the Wizard of Dribble'.
